A Work of Operatic Genius
Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's friendship with singer-composer Benedikt Schack led to Mozart frequently collaborating with Emanuel Schikaneder's theater troupe. Schikaneder and Mozart worked together to create The Magic Flute, a sweeping tale of love and idealism. After Prince Tamino is rescued from a serpent by servants of the Queen of the Night, he and his new friend Papageno are enlisted to rescue the queen's daughter, Pamina, from a monstrous man called Sarastro. To help him on his quest, Tamino is given a magic flute that transforms sadness into joy. However, all is not as it seems in Sarastro's dominion. Pamina is not so much a prisoner of the high priest as the Queen of the Night led Tamino to believe. Tamino, falling under the sway of Sarastro's ideas, must overcome several challenges in order to prove that he is worthy of Pamina. Pamina has her own challenge, deciding whether to follow her mother's devious plans or follow her heart to Tamino. Upon its opening in Vienna in 1791, the opera was an immediate sensation. Mozart led the orchestra himself, though he would tragically die just two months after the opera's premiere.
Every performance of The Magic Flute is a feat of both skill and imagination, carrying on the legacy of one of the world's greatest artists. Reserve the best seats in the house by picking up your cheap The Magic Flute tickets here!
