Cal Ripken Jr. Sets a Massive Record
On Sept. 6, 1995, Cal Ripken Jr. surpassed legendary Yankee Lou Gehrig’s record for consecutive games played by appearing in 2131 games. On September 20, 1996, Ripken decided to end his streak at 2632 games while playing the final home game of the season against the Yankees. Once everyone realized the streak had come to an end, the entire stadium including the Yankees gave him a standing ovation.
