About Dallas Cowboys vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

The Interception that Changed the Game – In the 1983 NFC Wild Card game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rookie safety Monty Hunter intercepted a Doug Williams pass to return it to the end zone for a 19 yard touchdown. The Hunter interception holds importance as the Cowboys at the time were trailing 17-16 in the beginning of the fourth quarter. Ten minutes later the Cowboys scored again and finished the game 30-17. The Cowboys would go into the second round and beat the Green Bay Packers but would eventually lose to the Washington Redskins in the Conference Championship game. The game is memorable for both the fans at Texas Stadium and Monty Hunter, a rookie safety from Salem College in West Virginia.

December 3, 2000 – A regular season game at the Raymond James Stadium in Tampa FL, turned out to be a memorable moment for the Buccaneers fans. In front of 65,621 fans, the Buccaneers finally broke the mold and defeated the Dallas Cowboys 27-7. This was the ninth meeting between the teams and all the previous encounters were won by the Cowboys. Argentinean placekicker Martin Gramatica took charge from the beginning and gave the Buccaneers a lead with a field goal in the first quarter at the 1:10 mark. This was followed by Warrick Dunn’s 70 yard touchdown. Even though the Cowboys tried to rally an offence with Emmit Smith and Tim Seder, the Buccaneers proved too strong an opponent. This win gave Buccaneers the confidence against big teams like the Cowboys. The Buccaneers went on to win the next two games against the Cowboys as well.

Warren Sapp is another Buccaneer who used to occupy multiple blockers giving space to linebackers to make tackles. Lee Roy Selmon was an underrated player who came up with a sack in each of his four post season appearances.
