About Miami Marlins vs. New York Mets
The New York Mets and the Miami Marlins have four World Series titles between them and the time has now come for these two MLB heavyweights to face off once again. The Mets and the Marlins met in a competitive fixture for the first time on May 7, 1993, at the Shea Stadium. The team from the Big Apple won that fixture 4-0. These two teams have dished up some unforgettable games and moments over the years and here are a couple of them.
The Mets trounce the Marlins -On July 8, 2006, the Mets and the Marlins met each other at the Shea Stadium. In front of a crowd of 41,477 on the day, the Mets were simply unstoppable. They went on a rampage and destroyed the Marlins 17-3 in a season that saw them win their fifth division championship.
Lightning strikes twice - The New York Mets started the 2007 season quite strongly. With only seventeen games remaining, they had a seven game cushion in the division. Their form however nosedived and they went on to lose twelve of their next seventeen encounters. The Mets were ousted on the final day of the season by the Marlins at the Shea Stadium. Then in 2008, which was the Mets’ last campaign at the Shea Stadium, they had a lead of 3.5 games over the Philadelphia Phillies with the last seventeen games left. They lost ten of those but could still make the playoffs as a wild card team. Those hopes ended at the Shea Stadium on the last day of the season when their nemesis from 2007, the Florida Marlins won that game 4-2.

Add names likes David Wright, a seven time All-Star and Tom Seaver, World Series champion and it becomes clear why the Mets are one of the most competitive sides in the MLB. On the other hand, the Miami Marlins have been blessed with some serious star power as well. Hanley Ramirez became a three time All-Star, the NL batting champion and clinched two Silver Slugger Awards with the Marlins. Giancarlo Stanton is another Marlins legend who has won three All-Star picks and a Silver Slugger Award with the franchise. Then there is Luis Castillo who is the only player in Marlins’ history to be a part of both the franchise’ World Series triumphs in 1997 and 2003.
