Humble Beginnings

Initially known as Unique Attraction, this group started with just a couple of friends from Philadelphia High School for the Creative and Performing Arts. After some time and more recruitment, the group found their niche and was renamed Boyz II Men. Boyz II Men dropped their first album in 1991, titled Cooleyhighharmony. What set them apart from the rest was the fact that all four members were featured as leads on this album, unlike most groups who have one central individual. Right off the bat Boyz II Men became extremely successful, winning Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group Vocals in 1992 at the Grammy Awards, and even selling over nine million copies of their first album. In 2003, their fourth member and bass, Michael McCary, left suddenly due to back problems from multiple sclerosis. Post his leave, the group took a year long hiatus from the spotlight and music industry.

Continued Success

Since then, they have continued their success. They are now the proud owners of four Grammy Awards for their music. In 2012, the group was presented with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Boyz II Men has also seen screen time on some of today’s hit TV shows such as FOX’s “Grease Live”, ABC’s “The Bachelorette” and “Dancing with the Stars”, as well as CBS’ “The Odd Couple.”

In 2014, Boyz II Men received the Casino Entertainment Awards for their much-admired residency in Las Vegas which has been ongoing since 2014.
