Finding a Spotlight in the Alternative Rock Scene

Starting as a garage band in 1986, the Goo Goo Dolls got their name from an advertisement for a True Detective toy. They were in a pinch the day of their first gig and it was just something that stuck with the band, looking back on it the they are known to say they wish they had taken naming their band more seriously. A year after they were created they released their debut album, getting exposure on college radio stations and branching out to bigger, hotter punk rock clubs. Years would go by with the band receiving very little commercial attention. It was not until the release of their fifth album entitled A Boy Named Goo that featured their single “Name” that the band would see commercial success. The single landed a spot-on Billboard’s Top 100 Pop Songs and helped the album earn its status as double-platinum. In September of 1998 the band was asked to write a song for the City of Angels soundtrack, with the result being their hit song “Iris”. Releasing the song on their album Dizzy Up the Girl only intensified the popularity of the band. The song stayed at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay charts for eighteen weeks, four of which were spent in the number one spot. Along with other smash hits, “Slide”, “Black Balloon”, “Broadway”, and “Dizzy”, Dizzy Up the Girl became a triple-platinum album.

Goo Goo Dolls and Train

In November of 2018 the band announced that they would be embarking on a nationwide tour alongside the Grammy winning band Train! The started in June with their first stop being in Auburn, WA. They stopped at venues across the country including Dallas, Jacksonville, Charlotte and Phoenix, with the tour wrapping up in Mansfield in August.

Tour 2019

The Goo Goo Dolls jumped right back on tour for the fall of 2019 to support their album Miracle Pill. The tour launched in October in Austin, TX. Other stops on this tour included Des Moines, IA, Madison, WI, Knoxville, TN and more before wrapping up in Toronto, ON. The band also brought along Beach Slang as an opener for many of their dates.

2022 Tour

Did you miss Goo Goo Dolls? We all did! After a two-year break from touring due to unforeseen circumstances, the Goo Goo Dolls returned in 2022. The nationwide tour started in July in Salt Lake City and continued throughout the summer. Following this, the group performed in multiple cities across North America! They made stops in Chicago, Cleveland, Boston, Nashville and several more. The last stop on their tour was in early September at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles CA.
