About James Gaffigan

A Gifted Conductor
Born in New York City during 1979, James Gaffigan began studying music at an early age. As a young boy he attended the Juilliard School, a very prestigious performing arts preparatory school. Eventually he would go on to also study at the New England Conservatory of Music, which helped prepare him for his collegiate experience at the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University. In 2003 he would graduate from Rice University with his Master’s Degree, and he would also begin to experiment with conducting shortly after graduation. He eventually became so interested in conducting that he would attend the American Academy of Conducting of the Aspen Music Festival and School. In 2004 he competed in a conductor’s competition in Germany, for which he took home the first-place prize. Throughout his career, Gaffigan has conducted for several orchestras including the Cleveland Orchestra, the San Francisco Symphony, and Lucerne Symphony Orchestra.
