In 1929 the lineup was dubbed the "Wonder Team" – the first of Kentucky's many notable squads. The Wildcats have had dozens of outstanding players on their roster, including sportsmen like Alex Groza, Anthony Davis, Cliff Hagan, and Frank Ramsey. Student athletes of the Wildcats team have gone on to play in the NBA, win Olympic gold medals, and receive coveted spots in the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame. In 2018, the Wildcats had an impressive season, finishing in a three-way tie for fourth place overall. They were defeated by Kansas State, the No. 9 seed.
