Gods of the Heavy Metal Pantheon
In 1994 four students in Richmond, Virginia, founded Burn the Priest, toiling away in a DIY fashion to make a name for themselves on the local scene. After a few lineup shifts and a new name, Lamb of God's sophomore album, New American Gospel, began to attract mainstream attention. In 2003 As the Palaces Burn received praises from Rolling Stone and Revolver Magazine, and the group took their place as a pioneer in the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. Lamb of God became a favorite at festivals like Ozzfest, Download Festival, and Mayhem Festival. They toured with rock giants like Metallica, Mastodon, and Megadeth, and even joined Slayer on their 2018 farewell tour. Over the years, the band's ability to exploit the genre, playing everything from groove metal to hardcore punk to thrash metal, has made them one of the most influential heavy metal bands of the modern era.
