A Path of Persistence
Growing up in Lafayette, Lauren Daigle was constantly singing, a small prophecy of her future career. After struggling with a grave illness in high school, Daigle began to prioritize her life differently. She went to university for Child and Family Studies, wanting to make the world a better place. All the while she kept pursuing music, leading choir and auditioning for American Idol. A series of small steps lead her to her big break, a duet with Jason Gray on "Nothing is Wasted." His label, Centricity Music, signed her shortly after. Her fan base continued to grow, so that when her debut album, How Can It Be, came out in 2015, it started right at the top of the Billboard Christian Albums chart. At the GMA Dove Awards she won the Best New Artist and Song of the Year awards. In 2016 the Lauren Daigle tour sold out, and How Can It Be was nominated for a Grammy Award. She achieved mainstream recognition with "Almost Human," recorded for the Blade Runner 2049 soundtrack, which crowned the Billboard Soundtrack Sales chart.
In July of 2018 Lauren released the leading single from her third studio album entitled Look Up Child. The single “You Say” debuted on the Hot Christian Songs Chart, where it eventually reached the number one spot where it stayed for 60 weeks. After much of the single’s success on the Christian charts, the single was released to the mainstream radio where it instantly became a Grammy Award nominee for the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song at the 2019 Grammy Awards. The accompanying album for the single was released and debuted at the number three spot on the Billboard 200 chart. With the album becoming the highest-charting Christian album, it was also nominated for a Grammy Award for the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album. Although they were not her first Grammy Award nominations, the single and the album were her first Grammy Awards that she has won.
