History
Manchester United was originally formed in 1878 under the name Newton Health by a group of railroad workers. The team originally played against other departments within the railway company until 1888 when they formed their own football league. After several decades of playing as the Newton Health, the team was bought out by a group of investors and was officially named the Manchester United in 1902. The club won their first league title in 1908, after they were promoted to the First Division within the Football League. With war breaking out twice in Europe interrupting regularly scheduled seasons, it was not until after the second World War that the United would begin hitting stride again. Under the management of Matt Busby, the team began bringing home several titles well throughout the 1950s. After a period of underperformance Busby was able to revitalize the team throughout the 1960s, signing young players who would eventually work their way up to stardom. From 1986 to 2013 the team was under the leadership of Alex Ferguson, who helped turn the team around leading them to victory several times. Today the team remains a top competitor within the league.
International Champions Cup
The International Champions Cup gives teams the opportunity to work out their starting lineup for their regular season with some friendly competition with other national teams. The teams play games throughout North America, Europe, Australia and Mexico. North American games are traditionally played throughout the United States, at some of the biggest venues the country has to offer. In 2019 Manchester United played their games in Singapore, Shanghai, and Cardiff.
