The Milwaukee Admirals got their start for the love of the game as an amateur team founded in 1970. In 1973 they joined the ranks of the United States Hockey League – with an inauspicious inaugural season in which they landed at the bottom of their division. However, they quickly rebounded and won the USHL championship in 1976. It was when they joined the American Hockey League in 2001, though, that they really dominated the ice. They won the Calder Cup in 2004 by trouncing the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins, clinching four more division championships in the years since.
