Establishing a New York City soccer legacy
Founded by Manchester United and the New York Yankees, the New York City Football Club got its start in 2013 and quickly began drafting some of the best soccer players from around the world. Their first league match was against Orlando City SC, ending in a 1-1 draw. After a disappointing first season, New York FC bounced back and dominated on the field in 2016. From the 2016 to 2018 seasons they finished second in the Eastern Conference. New York FC is based in Yankee Stadium, and fans come from around the city and beyond to cheer the team on. With their fervent Third Rail supporter group, New York FC games can get quite passionate, especially when it comes to matches against their neighborhood rivals. New York FC-New York Red Bulls matches have been named the Hudson River Derby, and the battle on the pitch – and sometimes the bleachers – is fierce!
