About Patti LaBelle
Patti LaBelle first took to the stage in the 1960s as the lead singer of Patti LaBelle and the BlueBelles. The group proved to be successful, becoming the first African-American vocal group to be on the cover of Rolling Stone. Although the group split in 1976, Patti LaBelle continued to shine like the star she is. The music industry was not ready for her exceptional talent.
Where it All Began
Patricia Louise Holte was born on May 24th, 1944 in Pennsylvania. Patti began singing in a local church choir as a young girl. In high school, she won a talent competition which sparked her career. While in school, she formed her first singing group called the Ordettes. After members began switching out and the group searched for their sound, they were eventually signed by Harold Robinson and renamed “Patti LaBelle and the Blue Belles”. This group had a very successful run before disbanding in 1976. In 1977, Patti signed her first solo contract with Epic Records. Her single “You Are My Friend” became the first song that caught many on to her as a solo artist. Although it didn’t quite reach substantial numbers on the R&B chart, this single was considered a pivotal moment in her career. This “Godmother of Soul” is certainly an artist you won’t want to miss. Shinning Solo
Through the years Patti has recorded numerous albums, earning her place in the music industry. Her various awards including two Grammy Awards go to show for her talent. But her talent doesn’t just stop in the recording studio. Patti has her own cooking show called “Patti LaBelle’s Place” where she gives viewers delicious recipes to try. In addition, she has her own pies and cakes sold in Walmart.
Tour
If you thought Patti was done touring, you thought wrong! Patti gave fans another tour beginning in July of 2019. Although it seemed like a short leg, there’s no doubt that she would be worth seeing live. Some of her stops included Tilles Center Concert Hall in Brookville, NY, The Tulalip Amphitheatre in Tulalip, WA, and Chrysler Hall in Norfolk, VA. Her incredible talent shines through many aspects, contributing to her being the artist that she is. Seeing Patti LaBelle live is a must!
