PGA Tour History
The Tour was first concieved due to a disagreement between tournament players and club professionals. The late 1960's saw a revenue increase due to increased television coverage. The tour players desired to be paid more, and the club players wanted to increase the general fund to help grow the game locally. Increased friction between the two sides resulted in the creation of the PGA Tour.
The PGA Tour is often confused with the PGA organization. The Tour organization does not run any of the Majors or the Ryder Cup. The PGA Tour organizes six tours, as well as week-to-week events. The PGA Tour, PGA Tour Champions, Web.com Tour, PGA Tour Latinoamerica, PGA Tour Canada, and PGA Tour China are the 6 tours operated under the PGA Tour.
The plAyer who leads the money list on the PGA Tour each year wins the Arnold Palmer Award. Tiger Woods leads the list with 10 Arnold Palmer Awards. The passed two years, however, the award has been won by Justin Thomas.
