Pretty Ricky started as the brainchild of two brothers and a cousin, their friend "Pleasure P" adding his vocals to their rapping style. The quartet picked up their name from their school days, when the girls used to call the well-dressed boys Pretty Ricky in reference to a snazzy character on the sitcom Martin. Pretty Ricky started to gain some traction in Miami, but it was their single "Grind With Me" that pulled the national spotlight to them. Pretty Ricky scored a record deal after an executive from Atlantic Records saw the mania the group inspired in their female fans. After a successful debut in 2005 with Bluestars and an even bigger hit with 200'’s Late Night Special, hip hop fans were stunned when Pleasure P was ejected from the group. He embarked on a solo career, while Pretty Ricky tried to find an adequate replacement for its lead singer. The group went on hiatus after the release of their mixtape Sex Music Vol. 1: Streets N The Sheets in 2011. When Pretty Ricky did return in 2015 with the single "Puddles," it again featured the vocals of Pleasure P.
