Blazing a new trail in blues
Born in Columbus, Georgia, Robert Cray picked up the guitar as a teenager. Following in the footsteps of some of blues' biggest stars, Cray moved to Eugene, Oregon, to start his own band. After years of building local support, Robert Cray signed with a label. The band released their debut album in 1980, starting their steady climb to mainstream success. With hit singles like "Smokin' Gun" and tours with superstars like Eric Clapton and Bob Dylan, the Robert Cray Band was soon one of the biggest names in blues. For the last forty years, Robert Cray has continued to push the genre boundaries of blues and soul, delighting fans with his inventive sound and dynamic live shows. Robert Cray has won five Grammy Awards and was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 2011.
