The University of Rutgers women's basketball program had its first official tip-off in 1974, boldly beating Princeton by a sixteen-point margin. In 1982 the Scarlet Knights won the final AIAW Tournament by rising above the Texas Longhorns. Seven years later they had their chance for revenge when they made it to the NCAA Championship Game, again facing off with - and again losing to - Tennessee.
