The Alternative Rock Stars of the 1990s
After working the local San Diego scene, Stone Temple Pilots was courted by Atlantic Records. In 1992 they released Core, featuring singles like "Plush," "Creep," and "Wicked Garden." The band was a hit from the beginning, and soon they were pulling in accolades from the Grammy Awards, the American Music Awards, and Rolling Stone. They became one of the most popular bands of the 1990s, with songs like "Interstate Love Song" and "Sour Girl" riding the radio airwaves. In 2002, shortly after releasing Shangri-La Dee Da, the band broke up. For several years the musicians pursued different passions, until a reunion tour was announced in 2008. Despite their successful return to the industry, the band was troubled. In 2013, front man Scott Weiland was booted, replaced by Linkin Park's Chester Bennington. However Bennington left two years later to devote himself to Linkin Park. In 2017, Jeff Gutt was invited to be the lead singer of Stone Temple Pilots.
