Coming from the prominent mountain town of Crested Butte, The String Cheese Incident (SCI) got their start in the fall of 1996. Starting out with five members, the band would perform throughout the local ski resorts as well as private events in the area. With a few years of experience under their belts, they decided to start their own independent record label named SCI Fidelity, under which they released their first album. Consisting of both covers as well as originals, Born on the Wrong Planet yielded many of the band’s favorite songs, which they still perform to this day. A year after self-releasing their first album, they recorded their second album. Except this time, it was a live recording of a concert that they put on in the Fox Theatre in Boulder. As the years went on the band kept releasing their own albums, mixing up their style experimenting with pop and rock but ultimately going back to their bluegrass roots.
