About Texas Longhorns
The Texas Longhorns are the NCAA Division I – Big 12 athletic department representing the University of Texas at Austin. The University of Texas at Austin was established in 1883 in Austin, Texas. The university was a flagship college for the University of Texas System. The entity oversees 14 educational entities in the state of Texas.
History
The Texas Longhorns got their named from Longhorn cattle. The nickname began appearing in the early 1900s. The university has 18 varsity sports (10 women’s teams & 8 men’s teams). From basketball to football the school has many well-known teams.

Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium
The University of Texas at Austin’s home stadium is the Darrell K Royal – Texas Memorial Stadium. The stadium holds over 100,000 fans and was established in 1924. The stadium is the largest stadium in the Big 12 Conference, the eight largest in the US and the ninth largest stadium in the world. The Big 12 Conference comprises of some of the top sporting colleges in the United States.
Texas Longhorns Fun Facts:
- The football team plays their home games in one of the largest stadiums in the world.
- The Longhorn’s colors are burnt orange and white.
- In 2002 Sports Illustrated named the athletic department as "America's Best Sports College".
