About The Color Purple
One of the most heart-breaking and poignant stories on Broadway today, The Color Purple bravely tells the story of African-American women living in the South during the early 20th century. Get your cheap The Color Purple tickets here and delve deep into this emotional story.
A tale of hardship and sisterhood
Based on Alice Cooper's Pulitzer Prize winning novel, The Color Purple grapples with serious issues of racism, sexism, and identity. The musical follows Celie from her teenage years through to her adult life. Growing up, Celie is physically and psychologically abused by her father. Marriage is no escape, though, as she is married to a violent and unfaithful older man who separates Celie from her sister. Encouraged by strong women around her, Celie finds her own voice. Celie draws on her inner strength and fights to turn her situation around.
A vibrant revival
The Color Purple first opened on Broadway in 2005 where it ran for three years. It was revived in 2015, opening at the Bernard B. Jacobs Theatre. The show snagged several awards, including the Tony Award for Best Revival of a Musical.
Offering a glimpse into the hardships faced by African-American women throughout history, The Color Purple is an emotional but important masterpiece. Find your cheap The Color Purple tickets here for an eye-opening night on Broadway!
