Modern Day Troubadours of Folk Rock
The Lumineers was begun in 2002 by Jeremiah Fraites and Wesley Schultz, who were working through their grief after Jeremiah's brother passed away from a drug overdose. They began performing in New York City but eventually moved to Denver to be in a more accessible music scene. While in Denver they added cellist Neyla Pekarek to the band and signed with a manager. In 2011, before they had even released an album, their single "Hey Ho" exploded on the music scene, receiving heavy radio airtime and being featured on TV shows and movies. They released The Lumineers in 2013, and cheap tickets to their first headlining tour in North America sold out. The Lumineers' music vibrates with feeling, complex emotions tied up in simple melodies. Nominated for Grammy Awards for Best Americana Album and Best New Artist, The Lumineers has helped blaze the trail for modern folk music.
