Three Days Grace has its origins in a high school band called Groundswell, where the founding members Adam Gontier, Neil Sanderson, and Brad Walst performed together. As Three Days Grace, the trio released their debut album in 2003. The single "I Hate Everything About You" made them a radio sensation. After recruiting Brad Stock, the band went on an extensive tour. Three Days Grace's sophomore album was heavily influenced by Gontier's time in rehab recovering from drug addiction. "Animal I Have Become," the lead single of the album, reigned on Canada's airwaves in 2006. Three years later they released Life Starts Now, which was nominated for Best Rock Album at the Juno Awards. In 2013 Gontier departed from the band, replaced by Walst's brother Matt. In 2014 the group released "Painkiller" off their first album with Matt, Human. The single went to No. 1 on the Mainstream Rock Charts, and the band went on an international tour.
