United States Soccer History
The United States played their first international match against Canada in 1885. 1930 Marked the first ever World Cup, where the United States advance to the semifinals until being bested by Argentina 6-1. Bert Patenaude became the first player to ever score a hat trick in the World Cup. The team faced an excrutiatingly long drought starting in the 60's. Things did not pick back up until 1988, when The U.S. was announced as the host of the 1994 World Cup. The teams 2002 performance in the World Cup was the best since their 1930 debut, advancing to the quarterfinals. After the 2018 World Cup, Klinsmann was removed as head coach and Gregg Berhalter stepped up to the position at the end of that year. Cobi Jones, Landon Donovan, Clint Dempsey, and Michael Bradley are just some of the most successful talents to be housed by the national team.
