Giving a voice to frustration
Founded in Milwaukee in 1980, the Violent Femmes started on the local scene. They played coffee shops and busked on the street, until one day James Honeyman-Scott from The Pretenders heard them playing outside the Oriental Theatre. This opened the door of the music industry to them, and in 1983 they released their debut album. With singles like "Blister in the Sun," "Kiss Off," and "Add It Up," the album's punk rock attitude resonated with teenage angst. After nearly three decades of releasing critically acclaimed albums, the Violent Femmes disbanded due to a lawsuit between Brian Ritchie and Gordon Gano.
After a hiatus, renewed energy
In 2013 the Violent Femmes reunited. The band toured the country playing at festivals, including Coachella, Riot Fest, and Shaky Knee. The Violent Femmes thrilled fans all around the world when they released their first new record in over fifteen years, We Can Do Anything.
