About Boston Red Sox vs. Minnesota Twins
Members of the American League East and Central Divisions, the Boston Red Sox and the Minnesota Twins were both established in 1901. Even though the Red Sox were always based in Boston, the Twins moved to Minnesota in 1961. Both ball clubs have multiple World Series titles to their name. The Red Sox and the Twins may not be fierce rivals however these two teams are competitive and are always exciting to watch when they play against each other. Here are a couple of moments that prove you don’t need to have a fierce rivalry to have an exciting baseball game.
Red Sox Twins Memorable Moments
AL Pennant 1967 – From 1918 to 2004, it was hard to be a Red Sox fan and not have your heart broken every season. After losing eight consecutive seasons since 1958, the Red Sox made it to the final day of the season October 1, 1967 to clinch the AL Pennant from the Minnesota Twins. The Impossible Dream, as it was called then, failed to become a reality however as the St Louis Cardinals defeated the Boston Red Sox in seven games to win the 1967 World Series Championship.
July 17, 1990 – Triple plays are rare magical feats that don’t happen that often. However, the Minnesota Twins accomplished this feat not once but twice in the same game against the Red Sox at Fenway Park. Both triple plays were identical with batters Tom Brunansky and Jody Reed hitting the ball to Gary Gaetti who stepped on third and threw the ball to second Al Newman who then threw the ball to Kent Hrbek at first. This wasn’t a one off as well, the Twins have 12 triple plays from 1966 till 2017.
