About Kansas City Royals vs. Texas Rangers
Established 8 years apart, the Kansas City Royals and the Texas Rangers couldn’t be any more different. The Rangers being the older team has yet to win their first World Series title, while the Royals have already won two, their last World Series Championship in 2015. The Royals lead the Rangers in the Pennants race as well. While the two may not have a textbook rivalry like the Red Sox-Yankees, nevertheless, the two have produced records and memorable moments when they have met.
Royals vs Rangers Memorable Games
On Wednesday, May 17, 1972, the Royals and the Rangers game at Municipal Stadium lasted for 4 hours and 56 minutes. This would be the first of their two longest games ever played. What was interesting about this game was that till the top of the 18th inning, the two teams were tied at 3-3, till Joe Lovitto scored and the Rangers won 4-3. The second longest game between the Royals and the Rangers was played on June 6, 1991, at the Royals Stadium. The game went on for 6 hours and 28 minutes. Interestingly, the two were once again tied at 3-3 in the 18th inning when Kevin Seitzer scored for the Royals ending the game at 4-3.
The McRae-Kennedy Faceoff
A Thursday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium, home of the Kansas City Royals, almost witnessed the beginning of a rivalry between the Royals and the Rangers. On July 29, 1993, in the eighth inning, Rangers pitcher Bob Patterson launched a fastball that ricocheted off Brian McRae’s back. Instead of charging the mound, McRae went straight for the Texas dugout, looking for Rangers manager Kevin Kennedy. Kennedy came up the steps to meet him. However, McRae was confronted by other Rangers and no punches were thrown. The game ended with the Royals winning 9-4. Since then, though no such incident has taken place, but two points were driven home that day - Kennedy wouldn’t let his team be intimated and McRae by going into the opponent team’s dugout, showed some chutzpah.
