Billy Currington's first attempt to break into country music was an audition for Opryland, a country music theme park, but the young musician failed to earn a spot. Still, he couldn't wait to leave Georgia for Tennessee, moving to Nashville as soon as he was done with high school. While he hustled to make it as a musician, he also became a personal trainer to pay the bills. One of his clients helped him get his foot in the door writing music, and in 2003 he inked a deal with Mercury Records. His self-titled debut came out later that year, making a splash with the single "Walk a Little Straighter" – a song that featured lines Currington penned when he was just twelve. By the time he released his sophomore album with songs like "Must Be Doin' Something Right" and "Good Directions," Currington was already country music's next big thing. He began touring with some of the biggest names in the business, artists like Carrie Underwood , Lady Antebellum , and Tim McGraw . Since then, his popularity has grown to match the artists he used to open for.
