About Country & Folk
Legend has it that country music started with singing cowboys, but no matter its origin, country and folk music have been a foundational part of American music culture since the 1920s. From the dancing yodelers of Hollywood's Western musicals to the soulful sounds of Johnny Cash dressed all in black to the hippie folk music concerts of the peace and love movement, country music spans several generations and numerous genres. No other musical genre has such a mix of sharp harmonica tunes, sweet acoustic ballads, foot-stomping banjo solos, and scream-worthy sing-a-longs. No matter what kind of country music you love, from rockabilly and bluegrass to honky-tonk and country pop, you're listening to music full of spirit and soul. Going to a country music concert is like taking part in one of America's greatest stories. From the personal feel of a Neil Young concert to the spunk and heart at Taylor Swift concerts, you'll find people of every age and walk of life tapping their feet and singing along. And if you get tickets to a country music festival, you'd better prepare for the party of a lifetime. Get cheap country music concert tickets now to see your favorite country music star, from legends like Dolly Parton, Garth Brooks, and Shania Twain, to newer artists on the country rock and pop scene like Lady Antebellum, Carrie Underwood, and Luke Bryan. History
The first generation of country music started with the original recordings in 1922. The first nationwide country hit came from Vernon Dalhart two years later in May of 1924. His song “Wreck of the Old 97” was based on the American railroad accident. In the 1930s & 1940s during the second generation there was a decline in sales due to the Great Depression. However, there was an increase in popularity with radio entertainment reaching the masses. One of the big country music stations that came out was the Grand Ole Opry. It is the longest radio broadcast in US history, and still airs to this day. Due to the large watt signal the station could be heard across the US. In the 1930s different styles of country music arose, from western swing and honky tonk to bluegrass and folk. By the third generation (1950s & 1960s) Western swing, honky tonk, and country boogie were the most played styles. Then a popular new style was created called rockabilly. This style was a form of rock and roll combined with blues and country music. Some of the early adopters of this style were Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash and Carl Perkins. The Country Music Association was founded in 1958 and helped to increase the influence of country music. The goal of the organization is to enhance the development of Country Music worldwide. The fourth generation (1970s &1980s) brought about outlaw country, country pop, country rock, neo-country, truck driving country and neotraditional country. Country music catered to what styles that the public wanted to hear, and the genre grew. In the 1990s female artists like Reba McEntire, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, the The Chicks and many more released platinum-selling albums. Later in the 1990s a new genre was created combining country music and punk rock to create alt-country. The current generation is the sixth generation with country singers rising in pop culture like Carrie Underwood, Lauren Alaina, Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, Florida Georgia Line, Luke Combs, Luke Bryan, Brad Paisley, Scott McCreery and many more. Country Music has become one of the most popular genres. If you’re looking to see your favorite country and folk artist live get you tickets for folk & country concerts here!
