About Cake
Cake is an alternative rock band fromSacramento, California. The band is made up of John McCrea on vocals, Vince DiFiore on trumpet, Xan McCurdy on guitar, Daniel McCallum on bass, and Todd Roper on drums. The band formed in 1991 and did not name themselves after a dessert. Instead, they say that ‘Cake’ refers to something that is caked on your shoes or something that stays with you for a long time.
Career
Cake self-released their debut album, called Motorcade of Generosity, and were later signed by Capricorn Records in 1995. Their first single, “Rock ‘n Roll Lifestyle”, went to number 35 on the Modern Rock Tracks chart, and was featured on MTV. In 1996, Cake released their second album, Fashion Nugget, which went platinum. The breakout song on that album was “The Distance” which brought Cake a great deal of attention from audiences and critics alike. Cake’s third album, Prolonging the Magic, was released in 1998 and also went platinum. Three years later, the band released Comfort Eagle, which was their first album with Columbia Records. The album featured the single “Short Skirt/Long Jacket” which went to number seven on the Modern Rock Tracks chart. Later, the band created their own label, called Upbeat Records, and in 2011 released the album Showroom of Compassion. The album was their first to debut at the top of the Billboard charts.
Tour
Cake has toured many times throughout the years, and continue to do so. They have even toured in support of other artists, like Ben Folds. Cheap Cake tickets are available online.
