Becoming a hip hop juggernaut

Growing up in Tennessee, Michael Atha found himself drawn to the music of hip hop. He picked his moniker, Yelawolf, in tribute to his Native American heritage. He got his start in 2005 when he independently released Creek Water, which was followed by several mixtapes. It was 2010's Trunk Muzik that gave him his big break, garnering him a massive following online. The next year he was included in XXL's Top 11 Freshman of 2011, and he signed with Eminem's Shady Records. Radioactive, his debut album with the label, was a hit and was lauded by publications like The Source. Since then, he has continued to release successful albums and mixtapes. As a hip hop sensation, Yelawolf has worked with superstar artists like Kid Rock, Ed Sheeran, and Blink-182's Travis Barker.
