She initially performed under the name Yola Carter. She started as the lead singer for the band Phantom Limb. While she was with this band, she released her first album back in 2010. Once the success of this album was realized, Yola decided to go off on her own. She has sung the backup vocals for a number of significant artists including Iggy Azalea and The Chemical Brothers. Yola’s career has been one with a gradual upward trajectory. She even received four nominations at the 62ndGrammy Awards. This included the Best New Artist category.
